Hawaii 2013: Oahu, Part II

Hawaii seems like so long ago!  It's been 2 months since we were there.
I don't think I could just skip my last Hawaii post, so here it is.

We spent the 2nd part of our time in Oahu at a marriage conference, and we stayed at the Northern Shore of Oahu.  The conference was held at the Turtle Bay Resort, and we stayed an extra day there before moving on.  I didn't take any pictures during the conference, but it was a great experience for us, and the Lord revealed some things to us about our marriage, that we trust will help us to love and serve each other better and better for many more years, Lord willing.

The afternoon after the conference ended, Gray took a surfing lesson. I stayed on shore, enjoying the sunshine and took a few pictures.

Here is a video I got of a descent run he had on the board!

After a while on surfing, Gray actually got seasick while he was out there!
It was a great day for surfing, and he had the guide all to himself and
the guide had already offered to keep going with him, but true story...he got seasick out there and was done!

The shore around the other side of the resort.

The way the resort is located, you can watch the sunset and sunrise each day.
We also got to see whales there.  They had some binoculars, and we got great views of them from there!

I couldn't resist all of these sunset pictures.

The resort had their own show with the fire handlers.

We skipped out for sushi.  I really like sushi, and really liked it in Hawaii--
maybe the fresh fish or some kind of Japanese influence....but this was Gray's first time.
It was fun and quite funny!
He had to use chopsticks the whole time because it was a pretty authentic place!

The view from our room--watching the sunrise.

Our resort from a distance.
We walked to some neat beaches and areas where Lost was filmed our last morning.

Pretty cliffs...more lithified sand if I remember correctly.

Any of you Lost fans recognize some of the looks of "camp?"

This guy was quietly fishing and being ever so patient for his perfect catch.
It reminded me a lot of Jackson and how he is with animals.
By this point, we were really missing our babies!

We finally left Turtle Bay and started driving to our last stop.
Of course, along the way we had a few extra stops.

I can't remember the name of this beach, but we walked in the water and all over these cliffs for a little while.
There were so many nooks and crannies that the waves were coming up in.

I loved how the ocean was coming in on this "shelf."

Another stop was Shark's Cove--not famous for sharks. :)
Gray snorkeled around in here, and actually was within feet from a huge sea turtle.

We also stopped and videoed some nice waves from the famous Banzai Pipeline!

Our last stop was an off road (at the end of the road on this part of the island) little trek to a hidden beach.

Here is the hidden beach, and the shore was actually tiny pebbles that were even speckled with color.
It was so pretty, quiet, and serene there.

The only interesting part was that to get there, you had to count the poles for the power lines.
It was a 16-pole little walk.

On the way back from that last beach, we stopped briefly for pictures at "The Others' Camp"
from Lost that we had seen on our way to that beach.

Finally, we made it to Ko Olina (our 3rd stop in Oahu)...for our last couple of days in Hawaii.
We ended and began at nice resorts.  It was fun to "live it up" before getting back home!
Ko Olina is an area with 4 man-made lagoons.  They were awesome for swimming and playing in the ocean...and one was great for a last day of snorkeling.

They had some sharks and rays at the resort, and it was fun to see them and take pictures for our kids.
At this point we were really thinking a lot about our kids!  :)

The best picture we could get of the Hawaiian state fish!

One last Hawaiian sunset

Ready for our last day at the resort, on the beach, and in lagoons of Ko Olina.

Our resort from a few lagoons down.

The Naupaka flower we had heard the legend about in Kauai.

We left Hawaii late that night, and flew through Los Angeles.
We had a LONG layover, that we tried to bump up, but we still spent our day in LA.
So, we had a rental car and drove all over before boarding.
Early Morning at Santa Monica Pier

Some famous Hollywood streets and theaters!

There it is!!!  The Hollywood sign.  I must admit, before this trip, I didn't know why the sign was there.  If you don't know either, check it out!
We thought this was a good view, but throughout the day,
Gray's high school friend was sending us texts of different places in LA to check out....

.....And, we finally got about as close as you can get!!!

Hollywood lake, just below the sign.

We ended down in Malibu....it was a pretty beach...even after spending a long vacay in Hawaii.

FINALLY.....
We were so happy to be back with our babies!

Gray's parents were pretty incredible to keep them for 15 days!

Oh, Hawaii, you were incredible, and I dream of going back another day!!!
