Gray went and met Gracie a week before we got her.
We had some friends in town visiting, so we waited a few days to bring her home.
Then, a year ago today, Gray brought Gracie home to be our sweet pup!
It was one of the most surprising gifts we could give our kids!!!
This video is so precious, and I love it SO much! It's not often you get such surprises on video!
I still did school with the kids that morning--they thought it was a ordinary day and had no idea what was coming. I had Sarala and Jackson do a creative writing assignment--they each wrote a story about the day they got their puppy.
Then, a few days later, I had them do the same assignment and tell what really happened the day they got their puppy for real.
Though having a dog has been one of the best things we have done for our family, I'm not going to lie. The first 2 weeks with a puppy whining at night was rough! In the middle of those short 14 days or so, it was rough, but in the long run, it's been totally worth it. I'd do it all over again! Oh, and potty training....that was a little longer than 2 weeks. But, again, so worth it!
We specifically wanted a female dog. Most people around here prefer males.
In the beginning I had a hard time that everyone called her a b!t@h! UGH!
Just a normal word around here...just like in Europe!
One of my favorite pictures of her as a puppy! I love how she's sitting up in there.
We loaded her up and took her to see some waterfalls.
She still loves lying around like this, even today. I thought it was a puppy thing.
We still think it's unique and hilarious and there are lots of pictures of her like this!
Her first bath....when she still fit in the tub.
She sweetly loves being with us all the time.
Here she is, comforting one with a sick tummy!
Gifts from her cousin Lilly!
Learning to dance. ;)
I wish I had an updated picture of her dancing these days with Gray--she is SO big!
A neighborhood cat scratched her nose
She loves to go on walks, and Sarala takes her on almost all of them!
Jackson helping her out with a loose tooth.
She puts up with SO much!
They all love her so, and even a year later will still comment from time to time how thankful they are that they got a dog and how much they love her. It's super sweet.
They aggravate the mess out of her, and she puts up with SO much!!!
Showing off a trick
A hilarious shirt she came home in after a procedure at the vet.
taking naps with Wint
This pup is NOT just for our kids. I love her dearly too!!!
How mean! Such teasing!
Sometimes, we have NO idea why she does such silly things!
I love when she scratches her face.
This was on her 1 year old birthday!
We sang to her and gave her a BIG bone!
She puts up with the most from Wint.
When Gray is away, I let her have sleepovers with me too...
and she loves them just as much as the kids do
She is some of the best company...and so loyal!
I love that she is almost always right beside me!
We love our dog SO much!
I think there are SO many incredible benefits to having a dog in one's life! I grew up with a handful of dogs and loved the two dogs I had for more than 10 years dearly....Katie and Spuds. I'm so glad I had them! I had always dreamed of having a big dog again, especially when I had children of my own. There were quite a few reasons we initially didn't want to get a dog (or any pet)--especially living overseas--travel, boarding, finances, dog hair, suspected allergies....just to name a few. But, I can say we've had no regrets at all. There are numerous benefits to having a dog, but I'd say the two that were driving factors for us and some of our favorite benefits are the joy and stability for our children and protection for our family. We're so thankful for this year we've had with her, and we hope and pray we will have many more with her in our lives!
